The Carmel Mission has seen many incarnations since the founding of the mission at the present site in 1771. By 1850 the mission was in a state of ruin so in 1884, private funds were used to replace the collapsed roof. in the 1930 restoration on the mission was completed. The Curtis Island Lighthouse is an easy trip to make from Camden, Maine. It is a short walk from street parking to see it from the shore. 
Great Diamond Island was home to a former military installation but now the barracks have been renovated into condominiums. Landscaping has created a park-like atmosphere.

The Asticou Azalea Garden was created in 1957 by Charles K. Savage. Savageís vision of providing a good display area for the azaleas came to fruition as he arranged the azaleas along the shores of the pond to increase the effects of their beautiful blooms in the reflections of the water.

The log flume is a popular ride at Silver Dollar city, especially in the summer for riders and onlookers who get splashed by the wave at the end of the ride.
