I was visiting with a couple old friends yesterday. They were looking at some of the mosaics I have been working on. “Your work is beautiful!” said one. “But it’s pricey,” said the other. “How long do you spend making each piece?”

I get asked that quite a bit. When I create, sometimes the ideas flow fast and furious and sometimes I work on a piece for weeks. Often I get stuck, like writer’s block. The other friend hopped in to say that I must put a lot of time into it with planning the design, executing it and finishing. I explained it is tough to put a time on a work of art. It isn’t like I punch a clock and say “Time to make art!” Although it is my dream for it to be a full time job.
To be honest, before I began creating, I also thought art was expensive at times, usually when I didn’t have the money. But even then, if a piece of art spoke to me, I would buy it and know the pleasure I would get from that work of art would last a long time. Think about it this way, if a piece costs $365, that is one dollar per day for the joy of looking at it. The longer you have it, the less it costs for that joy. It isn’t like a cup of coffee or a movie which both are basically consumables. Sure you can watch a movie over and over but it isn’t right there on your wall at home or in your office for you to glance at and grab a bit of beauty or whatever hit you about your art of choice.

About a year ago, I depleted my stock of creations selling them here and there. My inventory is way up and so is my drive to create. I need to sell some art. I’d prefer to do it straight from my website but they traffic is not there. So this week, I will be building an Etsy shop. Hopefully that will improve sales and help supplement my freelance photo income over the summer (I have heard that summer freelance photo income is non existent). In the meantime, please check out my work on the site. If you see something that brings you joy but the price scares you, please reach out and let’s see what I can do for you. Bring some joy into your space! Let me help with that.
